Back in 1999 I worked for an Internet startup called Backflip. It was my first Internet startup, and in less than a year it burned through many millions of dollars before going up in a glorious ball of flame. But while we were there we sure had fun. Natalie came across a stack of photos yesterday documenting two such instances of “bubble hi-jinks”. The first: we happened to lose our net connection for half a day and Fubini and I decided to hit the streets for handouts. The second: James, Charles and I went blond. both of these events made sense at the time. As did most every ridiculous thing that happended in those days.

Digging around in some boxes tonight came across this amazing discovery. It’s a photo (pre-digital!) of Edie and me and Jackson, just a day or two after we picked him up from the farm. Here we are at Bullwikle’s house, introducing him to his new uncle, Trafalgar, the weimaraner. Jacko was eleven weeks old and weighed thirteen pounds. He was tiny. Well, our cats didn’t think he was tiny, but it’s hard to imagineg that this dog was ever that small. (date of photo: April, 1995).

Well, again to the vault to unearth yet another classic. Here I am with my pop, at my eight grade graduation. I can’t decide which of us is more stunning. But I think the lady in the background was about to let us know. Something about our demeanor certainly caught her attention. Marvelous. My only regret is that the quality of the photo diminishes the impact of the amazing 16 karat gold chain around my neck.

Edie came across this photo yesterday. One of the classics from my childhood (that’s me, the baby!). My mom’s holding Sloopy. In addition to having an amazing name, Sloopy was apparently an amazing (and enormous) cat. Unfortunately Sloopy and I didn’t get along. In the end my parents decided on me over the cat and Sloopy found another home.
