Dear God Happy Birthday. How are you? I am fine thank you. I know your busy I have just one quick question, actually more of an observation, not complaining, just curious why was it so cold today and down right chilly tonight? I can hardly move I’m so cold.Don’t get me wrong, a 59 degree high is great and 45 degrees at night is refreshing. Terrific! In fact as a little side note, I got to wear a wool coat, hat and gloves today that I love to wear when I visit Boston and New York in the winter. So you see it’s all really great—just feels a little cold for L.A—but again, good, really good—just chilly—like freezing, like brrrr cold, especially for us L.A. natives. So just to be certain that there is no confusion here, nothing but 100% gratitude coming from me! I love the cold especially when I’m visiting the cold, that’s a perfect time for the cold when I’m visiting the cold. You know taking in some Christmas shopping and a show in New York City during December with my amazing wife, or a little romantic ski retreat to Deer Valley, incredible, by the way particularly nice job on Deer Valley, the place is stunning and thank you for my wife she is amazing. You heard me loud and clear on that one, amen! Now I know your not asking my opinion but lets just say going out on a limb, you might be curious to know what I think would be the ideal weather for L.A. this time of year. Well that would around 80 by day and 75 or so at night—clear of course but you already know that I’m sure and I know your not asking for my opinion and I completely respect that. You’re in charge. You are the man! Mr. Big, the biggest. By the way, I love Mary, Jesus and the Holy Spirit too. Huge fan of the Holy Trinity and Mary. Would you please give them my regards, unless it is that they are here right now and in that case, Hello, I love you and thanks.
So once again, just to be perfectly clear, no complaints coming from me here, just a little cold, cold like an ice cube but in a really fancy and great drink. So perfectly happy just really cold—cold like San Francisco should be. But no complaints coming from here at all. 100% gratitude from me. Fantastic job by the way on this whole life thing, lots of fun things to do, I love my family and my life. Incredible, you did a great job! You da man, seriously, you are the man. All good here and don’t worry at all about the cold. I know your busy. I’ll be fine. So thanks for talking, or listening and I love you. Amen.

I was trying to spice up an email tonight by adding interesting words. “Chipotle” was one of them. Thunderbird, my mail client, usually does a pretty good job of helping me find the correct spelling of fancy words like that, but my attempts at spelling chipotle seemed to have stumped it. Is it chipolte…
Or is it chipotle… I guess I’ll never know.
Wow, surprisingly I don’t think that Jack-in-the-Box commercial where Jack can’t pronounce “chipotle”.. chippa wah, chipa-who.. is on the internets. I just spent 15 minutes looking for it. I didn’t find it so it’s probably not there. I did find this one though:

This is what we came home to this evening. Some nasty squirrel had bored hole in the pumpkin we just paid too much money for, excavated it’s innards and left it to rot on our front porch. If it were closer to Halloween we might have been able to improvise… “oh, well the hole left by that horrible rodent can be the mouth”. Maybe we can still make pie. Does the baking process kill rabies?

Driving home today I noticed that the Temperature was 66 degrees, I had driven 66 miles since my last fill-up and I had 3566 total miles on my car. That’s simply got to mean something! If I had been driving 66 miles-per-hour at the time, might I have been sent straight to H-E-double-matchsticks?

Ok, time to get back on the ol’ blogging horse. We’ve got some great stories to tell about our Costa Rica vacation, so here’s a little lightening round of the happenings the four months leading up to it. Let’s see… I only really remember the things we took pictures of, so…
April, a big family picnic on the beach. What better way to spend Easter.
May, Natalie’s debut in the Peninsula School rock concert. It was incredibly amazing to see her up there singing and playing guitar in front of hundreds of people. You can see from the pics that she was dressed for the part. Kids from fourth to eighth grade performed songs from The Beatles to the Chili Peppers to Kelly Clarkson. It’s the high point of the school year, for sure.
June? Hmm…
July, Fourth of July fireworks in Livermore (Ooooh, Aaaaahhh). Natalie and cousins making funny faces. And a watching the US Women Soccer team defeat Japan.
August, Natalie returned to Camp Kennolyn for, as it turns out, her fifth year. Also, old friends who moved to Switzerland (Wendy, Patrick and their son Daniel) came by for a visit.
Onward…

Natalie’s working on a big class project. It’s a report on African Masks, and the project finishes up with an art project. Not surprisingly she decided to make a mask. From the photo you can see what we came up with. Pretty amazing considering we did the entire thing today. Natalie had a blast coming up with this crazy construction and making it (and running around the house with it on). It’s made out of paper maché with a frame of styrofoam. Googly eyes made out of recycled ice cream sundae cups.
See a more photos on the Mask in action!
Sorry, no “the making of” photos. Maybe next time.

Not much needs to be said about a photo like this. I’m sure alot could be said, but it’s probably not necessary. Either that, or it’s more necessary than I think. Only time will tell (and perhaps Natalie’s therapist).

While browsing the pet store the other day I picked up some refill doggie bags (and I’m not talking the kind of doggie bag you get in a restaurant) for our little Bags on Board dispenser. I was pleased to see that these bags were now “100% Biodegradable”. It wasn’t until I got home with them that I realized this was “except as defined by California”. And this is a pity, because Jackson poops almost exclusively in California.
Looking now, their website doesn’t actually mention the biodegradable thing (although you can see the little red stickers, and in fact these stickers don’t have that little disclaimer).
It turns out that this is not the fault of slacking Californian anaerobes, but legislation passed recently by the California Assembly which apparently is the first piece of legislation anywhere to put legal limits on the use of the term “biodegradable”. According to California, something is biodegradable if the ASTM Standard Specification for Compostable Plastics says it is. Unfortunately it costs $30 find out what that says.

The new OS X Leopard branding with the black and white spots in the background looks an awful lot like my Gallery theme… I guess I should be flattered :). I’m just sayin…
And why did they use dalmatian spots anyway? Couldn’t they find a leopard?
